The rhythms are presented in a logical fashion with notation that is instantly understandable. One of the best features of the encyclopedia is that several variations for each rhythm are presented, along with parts for low, medium, high drums as well as bells. This allows the drummer to play with friends with intention and coherence. Additionally, Murphy provides insight into the origin and purpose of each rhythm- allowing the drummer to select an appropriate rhythm for specific occasions. All in all, a much needed and invaluable resource. I highly anticipate Volume 2!
