I used this head on two different dholaks, one with steel tuning bolts and one rope tuned for the large head. The heads came in a bag labeled 8 1/2 inches but the head was stamped 8" inside and measured 8" when dry. I was very worried because both drums measured 9" outside diameter. However an 8 hour soak softened the braid and it's gut core enough to stretch onto the drum. The work was successful and they both sound great. The head is quite loud and very expressive.
